How long does counseling take? Will it fix all my problems?
You shouldn't feel rushed or pressured during your first session, or any other session. It's important to take the time you need to feel comfortable with your therapist and process what you want from treatment. You may even find that your goals have changed or you have new goals as therapy proceeds.
Therapy is a process that takes time to unfold. It may take anywhere from 2-6 sessions before we can really start uncovering the issues you are facing and understand how I can begin helping you. Sometimes it just takes time to open up to the counselor and be completely honest with how we feel.
Will it fix all your problems? There are no promises to therapy because it is not a miracle drug. However, I will do my best to help you where you are today.
Following the first meeting, you and your therapist will work collaboratively toward your treatment goal(s). Along the way, you may find your goals have changed or another goal may arise. Therapy is a process and yours is unique.
